Hybrid 7-Seater SUVs Are the Next Big Thing in India — Here’s What’s Coming by 2027
Summarise This Article With

The 7-seater SUV market in India is set to witness a major shift in the coming years as various automakers are set to introduce hybrid-powered 7-seater models in the next few years.

While electric vehicles continue to grab the headlines, hybrid vehicles are emerging as the preferred middle path, offering better fuel efficiency without the worry of running out of charge or dealing with unreliable charging stations.

As many Indian consumers find full EV adoption a bit daunting, hybrid vehicles are quietly making their case as a practical and transitional solution.

Hyundai Ni1i

The most awaited launch of Hyundai’s premium SUV is the upcoming Hyundai SUV, which is currently being developed under the internal codename Ni1i.

Hyundai Ni1i

The model is set to bridge the gap between the Alcazar and Tucson in Hyundai’s lineup, likely to be launched by 2027.

The new SUV could be equipped with a hybrid powertrain based on the brand’s well-known 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is widely used in Hyundai’s existing offerings.

Not just that, if everything goes as planned, it could become the second model manufactured at Hyundai’s Talegaon plant.

Renault and Nissan

Next, Nissan and Renault are stepping up their efforts in the hybrid SUV market.

Nissan is gearing up to introduce a new midsize SUV, and soon after, a three-row version will be launched as well.

Both these models are tipped to share the same platform and mechanical parts with the next-generation Renault Duster.

If the hybrid option gets the green signal, the powertrain could be used in three-row SUVs from both brands, which will not only enhance efficiency but also increase market appeal.

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota

Along with this, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota, the well-known companies in the Indian market, are considering expanding their popular models, Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser, respectively.

But no official confirmation has been made by the company yet.

But industry buzz suggests that 7-seater variants of both models may eventually be introduced, available with the existing 1.5-litre mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid petrol engines.

Apart from this, Maruti is also working on a compact five-seater SUV for its Arena dealership network, which may have the same hybrid technology.

The upcoming hybrid SUVs will shake up the SUV market in India. Now the spotlight is on finding the right mix of performance, fuel efficiency and everyday practicality, something that hybrid technology seems to excel excellent.

For Indian customers who are still hesitant to fully adopt EV SUVs, these new models can be a perfect step towards a clean and smart driving experience.
