Tesla Offers Up to Rs 2 Lakh Discount on Model Y in India to Clear Unsold Inventory
Tesla is offering discounts of up to Rs 2 lakh on select Model Y units in India to clear unsold inventory from its first imported batch. The targeted offers, extended to select buyers and test-drive customers, highlight the challenges Tesla is facing in gaining traction in the Indian EV market.
In a special deal for buyers Tesla is quietly offering discounts of up to Rs 2 lakh on select Tesla Model Y units in India.
The company is looking to clear the unsold stock of its first batch of imported electric vehicles.
According to sources familiar with the matter Tesla imported around 300 Model Y SUVs last year and approximately 100 of them are still awaiting buyers.
This is not a public, nationwide discount campaign. Instead these offers are being extended directly to select customers and test-drive participants indicating a targeted effort to clear inventory rather than a broad price reduction.
This discount underscores the pricing challenges Tesla faces in India. The Model Y currently starts at around Rs 60–63 lakh largely due to import duties that can reach up to 110%.
While Tesla was relying on its brand appeal to attract buyers demand has been lower than expected.
Reports suggest the company received around 600 bookings but a significant portion of these have not yet translated into deliveries.
