Major ‘Mega Block’ on Mumbai Local Lines on March 29; Hundreds of Services to be Affected

Commuters across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region are advised to plan ahead as a major mega block on March 29 will disrupt suburban train services. A 21-hour jumbo block on Western Railway and maintenance work by Central Railway will lead to cancellations, diversions, and delays.

Major 'Mega Block' on Mumbai Local Lines on March 29; Hundreds of Services to be Affected

Commuters in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region have been advised to plan their journeys in advance.

This is because suburban train services will be affected on Sunday, March 29 due to a major maintenance block.

Reports indicate that both Western Railway and Central Railway have announced extensive infrastructure and maintenance work.

As a result of this services on several key routes will be cancelled, routes will be diverted and delays are to be expected.

21-Hour Jumbo Block on the Western Line

Most significant disruption will occur on the Western Line.

A matter of concern is that a 21-hour ‘Jumbo Block’ has been scheduled between Kandivali and Borivali stations.

This block is being implemented to facilitate re-girdering work on Bridge No. 61.

According to railway officials a block on the UP and DOWN slow lines will commence on March 28 at 10:30 PM and continue until 7:30 PM on March 29. Additionally a block will also be implemented on the DOWN fast line from 1:00 AM to 4:30 AM on March 29.

During the ‘Slow Line Block,’ trains that typically operate on the slow tracks will be diverted to the fast tracks between Goregaon and Borivali.

A matter of concern is that several suburban services will either be cancelled or terminated at stations such as Andheri and Goregaon.

Railway officials have stated that Platforms 1 and 2 at Borivali will remain unavailable during the block period.

Due to platform constraints some trains operating on the fast line during the block period will not halt at Ram Mandir Malad and Kandivali stations.

Maintenance Block on the Central Line

Meanwhile Central Railway will undertake routine maintenance work on the Main Line between Matunga and Mulund stations. A maintenance block will be in effect on the Up and Down Slow lines from 11:05 AM to 3:55 PM. During this period,

Slow local trains will be diverted onto the Fast tracks which may result in delays of up to 20 minutes.

At certain stations such as Vidyavihar, Kanjurmarg and Nahur Slow trains may not halt during the route diversion period.

Trans-Harbour Line Services Suspended

The Trans-Harbour Line will also be affected during this time. to facilitate track and signaling maintenance, train services between Thane and Vashi or Nerul will remain completely suspended from 11:10 AM to 4:10 PM.

Passengers traveling on this route are advised to utilize alternative rail corridors; such as the Main Line or the Harbour Line; via Kurla and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, using valid tickets.

Advisory for Passengers

Railway authorities have urged passengers to avoid non-essential travel during the block period. Additionally those whose travel is unavoidable are advised to check live train updates via the Railways’ official apps and social media platforms before leaving home.

To facilitate passenger movement additional bus services operated by BEST and NMMT are expected to run on the affected routes.

Officials stated that this maintenance work which includes strengthening bridges and upgrading signaling systems is essential to ensure the long-term safety and reliability of Mumbai’s suburban rail network, which serves millions of commuters daily.
