A viral video from a Mumbai local train has emerged showing a woman turning a heated argument into a language row, demanding others to speak in Marathi or leave the state. The language dispute in Maharashtra is not coming to an end, and with each passing day, this dispute is deepening in new places.

The latest instance happened in the crowded suburban train in Mumbai, where an altercation precipitated by a seat dispute soon turned into a language row with a commuter demanding that either speak in Marathi or get out of the state.

A video of the alleged incident soon became viral after it was widely shared on social media. The RPF and Railway authorities have stated that they are investigating the incident, but a formal complaint has not been made.

The alleged incident happened on Friday evening aboard a Central Line train. What began as a normal altercation over seats in a crowded local train soon boiled over into a heated argument on language.

In the video, a woman can be heard scolding another woman for not speaking in Marathi.

Soon, more people joined in the conversation, and at times, the sound of the video was turned off, presumably because the passengers were using abusive language.

Voices can be heard in the video urging people to speak in Marathi or leave the state.

As per a report by NDTV, the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police are investigating the matter, but no formal complaint has been received.

The Raj Thackeray-led MNS has been carrying out a campaign against non-Marathi speakers, and several incidents have happened in the past few days.

Recently, a shopkeeper in Vikhroli was forced to issue an apology publicly after his shop was vandalised by MNS workers over his WhatsApp status, which the MNS found offensive to Marathi culture.

The incident was captured on camera, where the shopkeeper was physically assaulted in public.

A businessman named Sushil Kedia’s office was also vandalised by MNS workers after he declared that he would not speak in Marathi.

This incident was also captured on camera, and the MNS workers were seen throwing bricks at the office.

The businessman was later forced to issue an apology.

Social media users have reacted in a mixed manner to these incidents.

While some users stated that outsiders must speak Marathi, some users have expressed concerns over the rise in such incidents.

They stated that even public transport services like the local trains, which are a symbol of national unity and representative of the diverse population of the city, have become an arena for linguistic intolerance.
