‘Mumbai 1’ Smart Card to Unite Trains, Metro and Buses for Seamless Commute!

Imagine a single smart card which will suffice to gain access to local trains, metro, and BEST services! It is going to become a reality.
The Maharashtra CM, Devendra Fadnavis, is going to launch the Mumbai 1 Smart Card, which will negate the need to purchase separate tickets for different modes of transport.
Mumbai 1 Smart Card was given approval by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday, and soon Mumbaikars can avail themselves of the facility of having access to any public mode of transport with a single Mumbai 1 Smart Card.

CM Fadnavis also stated that the digital architecture and the backend formalities of the Mumbai 1 Smart Card will be completed in a month.
The Mumbai 1 Smart Card has been developed with cooperation from the State Bank and the Mumbai Metropolitan Development Authority (MMRDA).
The salient benefits of the card include:
- Contactless payments with a tap-to-go feature can be regularly topped up to increase stored value.
- Child protection features are present.
- Different modes of transport can be used to move between locations by buying a single ticket.
- Negates the inconvenience of standing in queues.
- A lost card can be replaced by paying a nominal fee of Rs 100.
CM Fadnavis stated,
“Once we have the system architecture in place, we will roll out the Mumbai 1 Card for all Mumbaikars. It will indeed be a game-changer for urban mobility.”
Mumbai is served by suburban train services, and it forms the backbone of the metro city’s transportation system.

CM Fadnavis also pointed out the need for support from Indian Railways in integrating the local train services into the transportation framework of the city.
He added that the Railways have a significant role to play in Mumbai’s daily commute.
The Mumbai 1 Smart Card will go a long way in removing the inconvenience of standing in a queue and buying separate tickets for an array of public transport services running in the city.
The Smart Card will grant access to various modes of public transportation across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), including BEST buses, local trains, the metro, and the monorail.
It will also be valid for services operated by Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) and Thane Municipal Transport (TMT).
Along with the launch of the ‘Mumbai 1’ card, 238 air-conditioned (AC) trains have been added to the fleet of the suburban railway network.

A viral video is making the rounds on social media and is spawning a heated debate on the etiquette that must be maintained while using public amenities. The viral video depicts a young couple who were engaged in sexual acts while travelling on public transport.
The incident happened on a bus travelling from Panvel to Kalyan, and a motorist recorded the indecent act by the commuters on a moving AC bus. The video showed the couple engaged in sexual acts in the back seat of a moving civic-run AC bus on Sunday evening.
The incident sparked uproar, and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has ordered an enquiry against the bus conductor, who was duty-bound to prevent the incident. The conductor is facing charges of negligence and failing to intervene.
NMMC Commissioner Kailas Shinde has not responded to the controversy.

When the bus stopped at an intersection, the act of the couple, who are reportedly in their twenties, was spotted by a motorist who filmed the incident and sent it to some senior NMMC officials.
The act could face charges under the purview of Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which stipulates a jail term of three months and/or a fine of Rs 1,000 for any indecent act in a public place. The transport authority has not approached the police on the matter.
An obscene act in a public place can attract legal action. At the time of going to press, the civic body hadn’t approached the police.

Saharsa to Mumbai Amrit Bharat Express; New 130 kmph Train with Affordable Sleeper and General Class Coaches

The third Amrit Bharat Express train will ply between Saharsa in Bihar and Mumbai, running at a speed of 130 kmph.
The third Amrit Bharat Express train will ply between Saharsa in Bihar and Mumbai. Earlier, it was rumoured that the third Amrit Bharat train would run between Amritsar and Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually flag off the Saharsa–Mumbai Amrit Bharat Express on April 24. This train will travel via Samastipur and Patna before reaching Mumbai.
The Saharsa to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) Amrit Bharat Express will be the second train of this category to originate from Bihar and, notably, the first Amrit Bharat train to serve Maharashtra.
Currently, two other Amrit Bharat trains are in operation — one running between Darbhanga and Anand Vihar Terminal, and the other connecting Malda Town with M Visvesvaraya Terminal in Bengaluru.
The Saharsa to Mumbai Amrit Bharat Express will be run and chaperoned by the East Central Railway (ECR). Bihar is also getting three other new trains, which will be inaugurated by the PM, including the Vande Metro or Namo Metro train.
The latest Amrit Bharat train, which will run between Mumbai and Saharsa, is designed for a top running speed of 130 kmph. The rake of Amrit Bharat was manufactured at the Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory.
The train is powered at both ends and hence will save considerable time because a changeover of engines will not be required. The train has been built in push-pull mode, which enables faster acceleration and braking.
The Saharsa to Mumbai Amrit Bharat Express will pass through 19 major stations, which include Bakhtiyarpur, Mansi Junction, Khagaria, Hasanpur, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Patna, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, Prayagraj Cheoki, Satna, Katni, Jabalpur, Itarsi, Bhusaval, Manmad Junction, Kalyan Junction, and LTT.
The train will be composed of 22 coaches and will have Sleeper and General Class coaches but no AC coaches.
For the last few years, Railways has been facing a lot of criticism for focusing on AC coaches, which are beyond the reach of an average Indian from the lower economic section. The new Amrit Bharat trains will be some respite for this category of travelers.
The ticket price for travelling on the Amrit Bharat Express train from Saharsa to Mumbai in Sleeper Class (SL) would be around Rs 1000 and Rs 500 for General Class.
