Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project: India’s Dream Takes Shape; 360KM Completed, Undersea Tunnel Progressing Rapidly

The ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is gradually moving towards fruition, with a 360 km corridor completed. Work is continuing on Maharashtra’s undersea tunnel.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw provided details on the progress of the project and also blamed the previous Uddhav Thackeray government in Maharashtra for the delays.

Vaishnaw highlighted the setbacks caused by permission issues during former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s tenure.

Vaishnaw said,

“The work on almost 360 km of the Bullet Train has been completed, and the loss of two and a half years that we had due to the permission denied by (Uddhav) Thackeray, we are trying to make up for that as well.”

The Railway Minister also visited the completed sections of the project.

Construction is progressing at a very fast pace, including a 2 km long tunnel under the sea.

The project is expected to provide a major boost to regional connectivity between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, as well as contribute to the economic progress of the region.

Union Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, inspected the completed sections of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project.

He praised the dedication and efforts of the team involved in the project. The project is expected to propel the nation into the league of the most developed countries with high-speed rail networks.

More than one lakh workers are involved in the project, with work continuing round the clock.

Union Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, stated,

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project is a collaboration with Japan, which is well known for its bullet train network, Shinkansen, operating since the 1960s.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project aims to provide better and faster connectivity between the metro cities of Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

It will pass through major cities and industrial hubs like Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad, and is expected to boost economic growth and generate employment in Western India.

The MAHSR project is being built for Rs 1,08,000 crores and is one of the most ambitious projects in the nation.

Mumbai Coastal Road’s Game-Changing Vehicular Underpass Set to Slash Commute Times by Over an Hour

Mumbai Coastal Road's Game-Changing Vehicular Underpass Set to Slash Commute Times by Over an Hour

The Mumbai Coastal Road, officially named the Dharamveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Mumbai Coastal Road, is an eight-lane, 29.2-kilometre-long expressway designed to connect Marine Lines in the south to Kandivali in the north.

The project is nearing completion, with its only vehicular underpass (VUP) expected to open in May.

This underpass, located beneath Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road in Worli and stretching nearly half a kilometre, will allow vehicles to bypass congested intersections and offer direct access to the coastal road from Prabhadevi.

The underpass bisects into two sections, with one leading to South Mumbai, while the other arm, which is elevated over a bridge, will connect with Bandra. The new link is expected to reduce congestion at key intersections and will also cut down travel time from two hours to less than 40 minutes.

The 4.5-km-long and 17-m-wide Sewri-Worli connector is also nearing completion, with its ramp ending before the JK Kapur Chowk, enabling motorists to connect with Marine Drive or Bandra via the coastal road.

The vehicular underpass is the only underpass of the project. The Coastal road also features more than 16 pedestrian underpasses (PUPS) allowing for the safe passage of pedestrians towards the seaside boulevard.

According to BMC officials, the underpass has been designed considering the burgeoning traffic shortly. It will provide hassle-free access from the Sewri-Worli elevated corridor to either the western suburbs or South Mumbai.

A BMC official was talking to the Indian Express and stated,

“This underpass will complete the last missing link of the coastal road. The ongoing works are in the final stages, and they will be completed by early May, soon after which we intend to open the underpass for motorists. Once this tunnel is opened, motorists coming from Dadar can enter the coastal road directly, without having to exit from the Worli or Haji Ali interchanges,”

Subsidiary work like painting lane markings, installation of street lights, and plastering of the sidewalks is going on at a brisk pace and is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

Couple Caught in Indecent Act on Mumbai Bus; Conductor Booked, Video Triggers Public Outrage

A viral video is making the rounds on social media and is spawning a heated debate on the etiquette that must be maintained while using public amenities. The viral video depicts a young couple who were engaged in sexual acts while travelling on public transport.

The incident happened on a bus travelling from Panvel to Kalyan, and a motorist recorded the indecent act by the commuters on a moving AC bus. The video showed the couple engaged in sexual acts in the back seat of a moving civic-run AC bus on Sunday evening.

The incident sparked uproar, and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has ordered an enquiry against the bus conductor, who was duty-bound to prevent the incident. The conductor is facing charges of negligence and failing to intervene.

NMMC Commissioner Kailas Shinde has not responded to the controversy.

According to a statement by Anarjit Chauhan, the conductor of the bus where the incident happened is facing the heat for not intervening in the alleged despicable act. According to Anarjit, the bus was almost empty and was travelling from Panvel to Kalyan.

When the bus stopped at an intersection, the act of the couple, who are reportedly in their twenties, was spotted by a motorist who filmed the incident and sent it to some senior NMMC officials.
The act could face charges under the purview of Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which stipulates a jail term of three months and/or a fine of Rs 1,000 for any indecent act in a public place. The transport authority has not approached the police on the matter.

An obscene act in a public place can attract legal action. At the time of going to press, the civic body hadn’t approached the police.
