Mumbai: Hydrogen Balloon Explosion Inside Goregaon Lift Injures Two, Vendor Booked for Negligence
A blast caused by gas-filled balloons inside an elevator at a Goregaon high-rise left two people injured on February 2. CCTV footage captured the explosion, raising serious safety concerns about carrying flammable gases like hydrogen in enclosed public spaces.
A major accident was narrowly averted in Mumbai’s Goregaon area. A blast occurred inside a building’s elevator due to gas filled balloons. Tragically two people were injured in the incident.
The incident reportedly took place on February 2 at Anmol Tower in Goregaon West.
This incident has raised new concerns about the dangers of carrying flammable gases in enclosed public spaces.
According to police and media reports CCTV footage from the building shows a young woman entering the elevator.
Immediately behind her are a delivery worker carrying a large bundle of balloons in a plastic bag and another person.
Science: Hydrogen is extremely inflammable, and it leaks in small volumes from balloons. A lift has static electricity as well as electronic components. Even a tiny spark can result in an explosion.
So why do people buy them? Mostly, they don’t. They are victims of a scam. They… pic.twitter.com/Oijz9pbUnl— THE SKIN DOCTOR (@theskindoctor13) February 4, 2026Advertisement
Shortly after the elevator doors closed the balloons ignited and exploded. The explosion briefly engulfed the elevator cabin in flames.
The doors remained slightly ajar allowing those inside to escape.
Himani Taparia, 21, was from Surat. Tragically Himani sustained burn injuries to her hands, neck and stomach. A delivery worker also suffered burns while a third person escaped without serious injury.
All the injured individuals were immediately taken for medical treatment, and their condition is reported to be stable.
Police have registered a case of negligence against the balloon vendor under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Penal Code).
Investigators are also examining the type of gas used in the balloons.
Initial investigations have revealed the presence of hydrogen gas which is highly flammable.
Authorities stated that carrying such gas inside a lift is extremely dangerous due to the enclosed space and the presence of electrical equipment which can produce sparks.
Authorities have reiterated that under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act activities that compromise safety in high-rise buildings are prohibited.
Carrying flammable gases in elevators is a violation of safety regulations and can lead to legal action.

Mumbai Silver Rates Update February 19, 2026
Silver rates in Mumbai today are as follows. 10 grams of silver costs Rs 2,549. For 100 grams, it is Rs 25,490. For 1 kilogram, the price is Rs 2,54,900. These prices change often. It is better to check the rate on the day you want to buy.
People in Mumbai buy silver for many reasons. Some buy it for jewellery. Some people keep silver coins and bars as savings. Silver is also used in small idols and puja items. Sometimes, families buy silver as gifts during festivals like Diwali and Akshaya Tritiya.
The price of silver in Mumbai is usually very close to the international price. But local taxes and making charges can make the price a bit higher. Also, the price can change from one shop to another in Mumbai. The rates are mostly the same in Zaveri Bazaar, which is the main market for gold and silver in the city.
People often look at both gold and silver rates before buying. While gold rates are higher (given for 10 grams), silver remains more affordable for most families. Right now, silver prices are not as high as gold, but they keep moving up and down.
Mumbai has many jewellers who sell silver in different forms. Still, it’s good to buy only from trusted shops and ask for a proper bill. Some people prefer buying certified silver bars or coins for better resale value.
In short, silver is a popular choice in Mumbai for small investments or daily use. Rates keep changing, so always check the latest prices before buying.

In Mumbai, many people buy gold for weddings and festivals. It is also used as an investment. Some keep gold as savings for the future. But gold prices in Mumbai can be higher than smaller cities because of taxes, transport, and demand.
Gold shops in Zaveri Bazaar and other old markets are always busy. People come for jewellery, coins, and bars. Most shops follow the morning gold rate. Some update rates in the evening if markets change a lot.
These days, gold rates are at record highs. This worries both buyers and jewellers. Buyers wait, hoping for lower rates. Sellers see less business. But big events like Akshaya Tritiya still see some people buying, even when prices are high.
When buying gold in Mumbai, always check today’s rates and look for hallmark certification. Some shops offer old gold exchange to save some money. Always ask about making charges and taxes. If you want to invest, some people choose gold coins or bars. Others buy digital gold.
Prices can change quickly based on international news and market mood. Mumbai rates are almost the same as other metro cities like Delhi or Chennai. But always check, as the rates may be a bit different.
Now, Mumbai gold prices are high. Think carefully and check all costs before buying. Don’t rush the decision, especially at these rates.
