Mumbai Police Tightens Security Ahead Of Eid ul-Fitr, Gudi Padwa; Deploy 14,000 Personnel Across City

This year, Guddi Padva and Eid are occurring on the same day, and the Mumbai Police are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that both festivals, observed by the two communities, are celebrated without any untoward incidents.

The recent communal flare-up in Nagpur has led the Mumbai Police to take no chances. To ensure a smooth celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr and Gudi Padwa, they have deployed 14,000 security personnel across Mumbai.

The additional forces have been stationed across the length and breadth of the city to maintain law and order at all costs. The Mumbai Police have also appealed to all sections and communities of society to celebrate both festivals within the framework of the law.

The police have stated that they have deployed:

7 additional commissioners

17 Deputy Commissioners of Police

50 Assistant Commissioners

1,982 police officials

11,820 constables

These police personnel will be on duty to ensure the law and order situation remains intact. The Mumbai Police have also issued notices to the public to maintain peace and refrain from touching suspicious items in crowded places. They have appealed to citizens to report any suspicious activities to the emergency numbers 100 or 112.

The Mumbai Police are also on high alert after reports of riots and bomb blasts during Eid circulating on the social media platform X. The message singled out regions like Dongri, mentioning ‘illegal Rohingya/Bangladeshi/Pakistani infiltrators’ on Thursday via the micro-blogging website X and also tagged the Navi Mumbai police. This has led the Mumbai Police to increase patrolling and security in the Dongri area.

An official added,

“Apart from Mumbai police personnel, the Crime Branch, the Anti-Terrorism Squad, and the Special Branch are also on heightened vigil.”

Similar messages have also been received by Delhi Police, warning of the possibility of Hindu-Muslim riots, arson, and bomb blasts in the National Capital Region.

Couple Caught in Indecent Act on Mumbai Bus; Conductor Booked, Video Triggers Public Outrage

A viral video is making the rounds on social media and is spawning a heated debate on the etiquette that must be maintained while using public amenities. The viral video depicts a young couple who were engaged in sexual acts while travelling on public transport.

The incident happened on a bus travelling from Panvel to Kalyan, and a motorist recorded the indecent act by the commuters on a moving AC bus. The video showed the couple engaged in sexual acts in the back seat of a moving civic-run AC bus on Sunday evening.

The incident sparked uproar, and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has ordered an enquiry against the bus conductor, who was duty-bound to prevent the incident. The conductor is facing charges of negligence and failing to intervene.

NMMC Commissioner Kailas Shinde has not responded to the controversy.

According to a statement by Anarjit Chauhan, the conductor of the bus where the incident happened is facing the heat for not intervening in the alleged despicable act. According to Anarjit, the bus was almost empty and was travelling from Panvel to Kalyan.

When the bus stopped at an intersection, the act of the couple, who are reportedly in their twenties, was spotted by a motorist who filmed the incident and sent it to some senior NMMC officials.
The act could face charges under the purview of Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which stipulates a jail term of three months and/or a fine of Rs 1,000 for any indecent act in a public place. The transport authority has not approached the police on the matter.

An obscene act in a public place can attract legal action. At the time of going to press, the civic body hadn’t approached the police.

Saharsa to Mumbai Amrit Bharat Express; New 130 kmph Train with Affordable Sleeper and General Class Coaches

The third Amrit Bharat Express train will ply between Saharsa in Bihar and Mumbai, running at a speed of 130 kmph.

The third Amrit Bharat Express train will ply between Saharsa in Bihar and Mumbai. Earlier, it was rumoured that the third Amrit Bharat train would run between Amritsar and Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually flag off the Saharsa–Mumbai Amrit Bharat Express on April 24. This train will travel via Samastipur and Patna before reaching Mumbai.

The Saharsa to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) Amrit Bharat Express will be the second train of this category to originate from Bihar and, notably, the first Amrit Bharat train to serve Maharashtra.

Currently, two other Amrit Bharat trains are in operation — one running between Darbhanga and Anand Vihar Terminal, and the other connecting Malda Town with M Visvesvaraya Terminal in Bengaluru.

The Saharsa to Mumbai Amrit Bharat Express will be run and chaperoned by the East Central Railway (ECR). Bihar is also getting three other new trains, which will be inaugurated by the PM, including the Vande Metro or Namo Metro train.

The latest Amrit Bharat train, which will run between Mumbai and Saharsa, is designed for a top running speed of 130 kmph. The rake of Amrit Bharat was manufactured at the Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory.

The train is powered at both ends and hence will save considerable time because a changeover of engines will not be required. The train has been built in push-pull mode, which enables faster acceleration and braking.

The Saharsa to Mumbai Amrit Bharat Express will pass through 19 major stations, which include Bakhtiyarpur, Mansi Junction, Khagaria, Hasanpur, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Patna, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, Prayagraj Cheoki, Satna, Katni, Jabalpur, Itarsi, Bhusaval, Manmad Junction, Kalyan Junction, and LTT.

The train will be composed of 22 coaches and will have Sleeper and General Class coaches but no AC coaches.

For the last few years, Railways has been facing a lot of criticism for focusing on AC coaches, which are beyond the reach of an average Indian from the lower economic section. The new Amrit Bharat trains will be some respite for this category of travelers.

The ticket price for travelling on the Amrit Bharat Express train from Saharsa to Mumbai in Sleeper Class (SL) would be around Rs 1000 and Rs 500 for General Class.
