Air quality across Mumbai continued to deteriorate. According to data from the SAMEER app the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 182 in the morning, approaching the ‘poor’ category. Furthermore within 24 hours the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded the city’s AQI in the ‘moderate’ range alarmingly approaching the 200 mark. With temperatures remaining similar to last week the warm and stable weather has led to increased pollution levels.

It’s worth noting that experts have warned that if this trend continues, sensitive groups such as children, the elderly and those with respiratory problems could face adverse health effects.

Amid this growing concern Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray strongly criticized BJP governments. In a post on X, he alleged that Mumbai’s AQI is worsening and “rivaling Delhi,” but those in power are ignoring the crisis. Thackeray further accused officials of prioritizing builders and contractors over public health.

He pointed to rampant construction demolition activities, and tree felling. Most importantly he further alleged that the government is planning to “deregularize” the Sanjay Gandhi National Park for development.

Thackeray claimed that similar efforts are underway in Nashik’s Tapovan forest which he said could eventually be handed over to the Adani Group after the Kumbh Mela. Calling the situation “shameful,” he questioned how Mumbai Climate Week could be held “in good faith” given what he described as ongoing environmental damage.

Meanwhile the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted clear skies for the day. The IMD says the maximum temperature will be around 34°C and the minimum temperature will be around 23°C. Colaba recorded 23.9°C and Santacruz 22.0°C.

Notably both are higher than last week. In contrast, winter is clearly beginning in other parts of Maharashtra. The temperature in Pune dropped to 14.6°C, while Dahanu recorded 21.2°C. Mahabaleshwar remained one of the coldest areas with 14.1°C.
