Mumbai: The much-awaited Versova-Bandra Sea Link (VBSL), set to ease north-south travel on Mumbai’s western coast, is progressing steadily, and about 25% of the work is complete, reports senior officials of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).

The 17.17-km-long road, touted as Mumbai’s next major mobility upgrade, is set to welcome motorists by July 2027.

A major milestone was achieved

Speaking about the project, Rajesh Patil, joint managing director of MSRDC, said the main focus of the work completed has been on the construction of the foundation and pillars.

“Construction over the sea presents complex challenges, especially during monsoon, but all safety protocols are being strictly followed,” Patil told Mid-Day.

Marine construction work will remain on hold due to the rainy season, and land-based work on the sea link’s connectors will continue throughout the season.

Project Cost Rises to Rs 18,120 Crore

The project cost has seen a sharp escalation—from the originally sanctioned Rs 11,332 crore in 2018 to Rs 18,120 crore as of now. The cost hike has been attributed to:

  • The relocation of the casting yard from Juhu to Malad
  • Enhanced beautification and lighting components

Travel Time to Shrink Drastically

Once it becomes operational, the VBSL will reduce the travel time from Bandra to Versova from the current 45 to 60 minutes to less than 15 minutes! The sea link is also expected to ease congestion on major traffic arteries such as:

Link Road

SV Road

Western Express Highway (WEH)

Multiple Connectors Planned

To ensure seamless integration, the project includes several land connectors:

2.25 km Bandra connector (2+2 lanes)

2.57 km Carter Road connector (3+3 lanes)

4.5 km Juhu connector (2+2 lanes)

4.29 km Versova connector, which includes a cable-stayed bridge

Beyond Connectivity: Wider Urban Impact

According to MSRDC, the VBSL will deliver not just faster commute times, but also several long-term urban benefits:

Reduced vehicle wear and tear

Lower fuel consumption and emissions

Boost in real estate value along the route

Job creation during and post construction

Less driver stress and smoother traffic flow

The Versova-Bandra Sea Link will be a major transformational step for Mumbai’s transport system, enhancing connectivity and easing pressure on the existing road network.

If progress stays on track, Mumbai motorists could be driving over the Arabian Sea by mid-2027.

Mumbai Silver Rates Update February 18, 2026
Summarise This Article With

Silver rates in Mumbai today are: Silver 10g: Rs 2,599, Silver 100g: Rs 25,990, Silver 1kg: Rs 2,59,900. These can change daily. People in Mumbai watch these numbers closely. Some buy a little silver for savings. For others, it’s a small part of wedding gifts or religious events.

Silver is cheaper than gold. That’s why many choose silver for jewellery, coins, or small bars. It is easy to buy and sell. Places like Zaveri Bazaar in Mumbai sell all kinds of silver items. Most local jewellers show today’s rate outside their shop. You can check it before buying.

The rate of silver depends on many things. It follows international prices. The value of rupee also matters. If the dollar becomes strong, silver prices can go up. If the demand for silver jewellery or industrial use rises, rates may rise too. Festivals may also see a small increase in demand and price.

Unlike gold rates, which are usually shown for 10g, silver is often sold per kg. But people also buy smaller amounts. For small investors, silver is an easier entry point compared to gold. It does not need big money.

Remember, silver prices change every day. Sometimes the price can drop suddenly. So check the rate before you buy. Avoid buying from unknown sellers. Always ask for a bill. In Mumbai, the weight and purity will decide the final cost.

There is no sure way to predict tomorrow’s price. Stay updated. Only buy if you really need silver, or want it as an investment. And always compare prices at two or three shops before you decide.
