JK Rowling Dragged Into Epstein Files as Viral Invite Sparks Online Outrage
Freshly released Department of Justice documents linked to Jeffrey Epstein have sparked online debate after referencing an invitation connected to the Broadway opening of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. J. K. Rowling has denied any contact with or invitation to Epstein, calling the claims misleading.
The latest tranche of documents related to the Epstein case is dragging in high-profile personalities and the latest JK Rowling.
It is reported that the released documents also feature an invitation allegedly sent by JK Rowling to the official Broadway opening of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
The invite, which can be seen in the DOJ library, was dated Sunday, 22 April 2018.
The invitation states,
“Sonia Friedman, Colin Callender, and J.K. Rowling invite you and a guest to the Official Broadway Opening of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I and II.”
It is important to note that the invite was sent at a time when Epstein was already convicted.
A snapshot of the invite is now viral on the internet.
Multiple posts have spawned on social media, including Reddit, which alleged the friendship between Rowling and a convicted sex offender and rued the fact that a notorious pedophile, Jeffrey Epstein, was invited to her play and subsequent dinner.
The author of the world-famous series Harry Potter has now responded after her name cropped up in the released documents related to the proclaimed sex offender.
Rowling stated on X,
“This is beyond silly. Neither I nor anybody on my team ever met, communicated with, or invited Jeffrey Epstein to anything.”

There has been another instance where Rowling’s name was mentioned in a released document.
A person whose name was withheld wanted to meet JK Rowling and had asked for help from Epstein.
Despite a rebuttal by JK Rowling, netizens have taken to social media to express their shock and outrage.
One user said,
“JK Rowling personally invited Jeffrey Epstein to the opening of Harry Potter & the Cursed Child while he’d been a very publicly convicted pedophile for 10 whole years…’ Protecting women & girls’, huh?”
Another user was more scathing in his remarks and said,
“Holocaust denier, Epstein supporter, pedophilia defender.”
A third person caustically remarked,
“I think this invitation to Jeffrey Epstein is my personal favorite thing she’s ever written!”
The latest release of documents related to the Epstein files, which the DoJ has stated is the last document connected to the sordid case, has failed to calm the outrage, and many activists are saying that a number of documents are still being withheld and are asking for the release of any remaining documents.

Why Do the Epstein Files Mention the ‘Zombie Flower’ Trumpet? What Do the Emails Reveal About Scopolamine and His Nursery?
Newly released DOJ documents in the Epstein case reference the “trumpet flower” and scopolamine, also known as “Devil’s Breath.” Emails reportedly mention the plant being cultivated in Epstein’s nursery and discuss its mind-altering effects. Here’s what the documents reveal and what scopolamine is.
The last batch of documents related to the Epstein case has been made public by the DoJ, and one email that has caught the eyes of people who are following the Epstein case is the mention of the trumpet flower, a flower that contains a substance called scopolamine.
The latter is also referred to as “Devil’s Breath” or “Zombie Breath” because of its property of inducing confusion and even removing a person’s ability to make independent choices.
The Trumpet Flowers finds mention thrice in the Epstein emails, and it also seems that the convicted sex offender was aware of scopolamine and its effects.

The emails also suggest that the plant was actively cultivated in Epstein’s nursery. Epstein had enquired about the trumpet plant growing in his nursery to someone called Chris.
One of the messages that was forwarded clearly mentions scopolamine, which was described as a plant with a powerful drug growing in Colombia.
The email clearly mentioned that consuming the drug impairs the free will of the person.
The drug scopolamine is extracted from the seeds of the Borrachero tree, which grows in Colombia. All parts of the plant, including its leaves, flowers, and seeds, contain a number of toxic alkaloids, including atropine and scopolamine.
The substance has medicinal use, but if it is consumed without proper guidance from a medical expert, it can cause hallucinations, dry mouth, muscle impairment, augmented blood pressure and pulse, and even paralysis.
Brugmansia and a plant known as Datura, which is unrelated but also contains the same toxins, bear large trumpet-like flowers, hence the name.
The Datura plant has significance in Hindu mythology and is offered to Lord Shiva because of the legend that he consumed the poison spewed out during the churning of the cosmic ocean.
Epstein had committed suicide in his prison cell while awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking.
His close associate Ghislaine Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison term on sex trafficking charges.
The Epstein files were released by the DOJ to the public after a congressional directive. The files had to be released in batches, considering their voluminous nature.

Lesley Groff Emerges as Second Most-Referenced Name in Newly Released Epstein DOJ Files
Lesley Groff, Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime executive assistant, reportedly appears more than 157,000 times in recently released DOJ documents. Officials say the frequency reflects her role in handling scheduling, communications, and travel logistics for Epstein. She has not been charged with any crime and denies wrongdoing.
The name that appears second only to Jeffrey Epstein in the documents released by the DoJ is Lesley Groff. Federal officials stated that Lesley Groff, Jeffrey Epstein’s long-time aide, appeared 157,000 times in the documents that were made public.
The reason for her name appearing so many times is that she had handled communications and scheduling for both Epstein’s professional contacts and the people who travelled on his behalf.
The release of the earlier unredacted Department of Justice (DOJ) documents associated with the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal network led to Groff’s name appearing repeatedly.
Lesley Groff, 58, resided in New Canaan, Connecticut, for a long time, but her name was not known publicly until the release of the latest documents, leading to a spike in public and media interest.
Lesley Groff had worked for Epstein for almost twenty years and had joined Epstein’s team in 2001. She remained under Epstein’s payroll right until his death in a New York cell in 2019, when he committed suicide awaiting trial for charges of sex trafficking.
Groff was working as Epstein’s executive assistant and was tasked with maintaining the convicted sex offender’s daily calendar, travel logistics, high-level communications, and meetings.
Lesley Groff was the point of contact if anyone wanted to organise a flight on Epstein’s private aircraft or arrange meetings with high-profile personalities.
She also handled mundane tasks like college admissions for family members. According to media outlet WSFB, she was the dominant administrative figure in Epstein’s wide, elite-facing operations.
During the course of numerous lawsuits related to Epstein’s crimes, her name also appeared a number of times, and she was alleged to have helped arrange massages and travel tied to abuse.
However, most of the lawsuits were either dismissed or withdrawn as part of settlements or victim compensation processes.
To date, there is no public record of criminal charges against her. Lesley Groff has constantly maintained that she did not participate in any illegal activities.
It is reported that Epstein referred to Groff as an extension of his brain and paid her a hefty salary of $200,000 per annum.
He also refused to accept Groff’s resignation when she was expecting a baby and even offered to pay for full-time childcare and to purchase a Mercedes-Benz for her.

Fact Check: Mark Wahlberg’s $35,000 Donation to James Van Der Beek’s Family Debunked
A viral social media claim alleged that Mark Wahlberg donated $35,000 to James Van Der Beek’s GoFundMe fundraiser. However, there is no evidence supporting the claim, and Wahlberg’s name does not appear on the official donor list. The rumour appears to have originated from an unreliable Facebook post.
In the last few days, a viral claim was circulating on social media platforms that Family Plan actor Mark Wahlberg had contributed $35,000 to James Van Der Beek’s family via GoFundMe.
The rumour spread along with reports of contributions from notable Hollywood personalities such as Steven Spielberg, Jon M. Chu, Guy Oseary, and Zoe Saldaña.
The fundraiser was created after the demise of Van Der Beek, who had been battling third-stage colorectal cancer since 2023.
However, the claims made on social media are false, and there is no evidence that Mark Wahlberg had contributed $35,000 to James Van Der Beek’s family via GoFundMe.
This was confirmed by Mark Wahlberg and James Van Der Beek’s families.
Wahlberg’s name also does not appear in the donors’ list on the GoFundMe page.
The fundraiser has raised over $2 million with confirmed contributions from Spielberg, Chu, Oseary, and Saldana.
The genesis of the rumour can be traced to a post on the social media platform Facebook by a user named Dreamy Dube from Dorchester, who first made the claim.
The post even stated that James Van Der Beek’s family was moved to tears by the gesture from Mark Wahlberg. There was even a mention of Van Der Beek’s widow in the post.
Media outlet Primetimer, in a report, stated that the post was from an unreliable site that has in the past been indicted for fake AI-generated articles.
However, the GoFundMe campaign has evoked strong support and has already raised $2.6 million in a few days. There has been an outpouring of prayers and condolences.
However, Wahlberg is well known for his philanthropy and had donated the money he received for the reshoots of All the Money in the World, which totalled $1.5 million.
The actor had donated the whole amount for Time’s Up legal defence fund, an initiative supporting victims of sexual misconduct.
The donations also highlight Wahlberg’s pledge to address workplace inequality.
